I don’t like Ubuntu. Yes they have been able to get a noticeable market share, and even please quite a few users.

However, internally their work style is “do whatever dirty hack to make this mess look like working”. I believe that actual reason of their success lays in the fact that their base, Debian, is extremely solid and still survives even under this amount of junk put over.

Today I was browsing Debian BTS and by the way found one more example proving that. To fix bug #521918, ubuntu maintainer suggests a change that will break standards-compliant build tools.

Ubuntu reminds be the old Russian story about a pig under an oak tree :) .
